Salon Owner & Groomer

Melannie Macias

Melannie started her career in animal care when she graduated from St. Lawrence College in Kingston, with an honors diploma as a Veterinary Assistant, along with a Grooming Certificate.

She then worked at Ottawa Veterinary Hospital in the emergency department developing her skills in emergency medicine. She returned home to Cornwall,  at St. Lawrence Valley Animal Hospital where she was trained to work as a Veterinary Technician.

She decided to take her love for animal care a step further and enrolled into the University of Guelph for the DVM program. While conducting her studies she decided to leave the medical aspect of animal care, and enter the beautician side.

Her vast background in the medical aspect of animal care, combined with her passion for the well being of animals has benefited the pets in her care, as well as the owners who enjoy the comforts of her salon.

Melannie avidly participates in continuing education within the grooming industry with seminars and workshops. Her goal is to become a Certified Master Groomer with Canadian Professional Pet Stylists. She sat on the Board of Directors for Ontario Dog Groomers Association, and instilled mandatory continuing education into ODGA's membership. She will continue to strive to make a difference in the lives of the animals she touches.

Sarah first dabbled in the grooming industry when she volunteered at Make Over Rover, and received the appropriate training as a Bather.   The Animal Care Center taught her medical skills, as they helped rehabilitate strays. For a new leash on life, she worked with behavioral issues, training , and taught socialization skills to give them the best chance for adoption. This lead her to open Pack Leader Services in which she provided pet sitting, walking, and puppy socialization for her clientelle.  She was a Canine Handler as she did scent detection for bed bugs.  While working at a boarding facility, her passion became focused on grooming.

In the summer of 2017, Sarah successfully completed a 1 year grooming apprentiship with Melannie. She is developing her own grooming style and loves showing off her creative grooming skills every chance she can get. She brings a vast amount of animal behaviour and training experience to the Central Bark team. Her love and passion for animals is demonstrated everytime a dog walks through our doors. Her personality and happiness is truly contagious, and can be witnessed with how dogs respond to her.  She has a unique ability to calm and rehabilitate the most grooming challenged, four legged individuals.
